Garowe (HOL) – The list of members for the new Puntland Parliament was officially announced on Monday despite controversy surrounding the selection process of regional lawmakers.

The 17 members of the SSC-Khatumo were included on the list. However, the Supreme Council of SSC-Khaatumo had previously declared that the newly formed SSC-Khaatumo administration would no longer be part of the semi-autonomous northern Somali state of Puntland.

MP Farah Yusuf Jama Dalmar, who was captured in the war in Sool by Somaliland last year, appeared in the parliament.

It remains uncertain whether the candidates will oppose the announced members of parliament, as they accused the incumbent President last night of seriously interfering with elders and personally handpicking the 17 positions from SSC-Khatumo.

Just a day ago, over 30 traditional elders from Puntland endorsed the decision of the SSC-Khatumo, aligning with the recent declaration by SSC-Khatumo elders that they will not participate in the selection process for the upcoming Puntland parliamentarians.
