Garowe (HOL) – The Puntland government issued a call for unity and strategic dialogue following a key meeting in Garowe on Thursday. The gathering included prominent figures from Puntland’s current and past administrations, along with high-ranking ex-officials of the Federal Government of Somalia.

This meeting occurred against a backdrop of a politically charged environment, notably marked by Puntland’s recent presidential election that saw Said Abdullahi Deni re-elected amidst heightened political tensions
The press release from Puntland’s presidency highlighted two main points. The first underscored the Puntland community’s commitment to regional unity and solidarity. The second point called on the Federal Government of Somalia to pause specific actions and engage in crucial talks.

The statement requested that the Federal Government of Somalia focus discussions on the future of federalization and the finalization of the Federal Constitution of Somalia. It suggested a halt to current actions until these talks take place.

The meeting, which saw attendance from current and former Puntland leaders and notable figures like ex-Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid and Ahmed Awad Isse, also addressed the growing tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia. This suspicion stems from the recent controversial agreement between Ethiopia and the self-declared republic of Somaliland, which has escalated regional tensions.

Below is the translated press release from the Puntland Government.
