Mogadishu (HOL) – The Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor Madobe, visited the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Mogadishu on Tuesday night to offer condolences after the deadly al-Shabab attack. He held a meeting with Ambassador Ahmed Juma Al-Rumeisi to express sympathy and solidarity.

During the meeting, Mr. Madobe thanked the Emirati government and its people for supporting the Somali government and their efforts in rebuilding the Somali army. This visit follows President Mohamud’s similar gesture of offering condolences to Ambassador Ahmed at the UAE Embassy in Mogadishu on Monday.

The condolences come after the incident last Saturday, where a Somali soldier opened fire, resulting in the loss of at least five lives, including Somali military officials, four Emirati troops, and a Bahraini military officer at the General Gordon Military Base in Mogadishu.

Al-Shabab militants claimed responsibility for the attack.

President Mohamud has instructed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation in response to the attack. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack in an online statement, alleging that it targeted individuals involved in the Emirati military efforts.
