At least 18 people injured in al-Shabab attack airlifted to Turkey

Mogadishu (HOL) – At least 18 of the most severely wounded people from Thursday’s al-Shabab attack on the SYL hotel in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, have been airlifted to Turkey for treatment on Sunday.

Minister of Health Dr. Ali Haji Aden told reporters that a Turkish military cargo airplane had transported the 18 injured people to Ankara for treatment.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and other government officials saw off the victims at the Aden Adde International Airport. At least three people were killed and 27 others injured in the terrorist attack by al-Shabab at the SYL hotel near the presidential palace in Mogadishu, the Somali capital.

Meanwhile, President Mohamud embarked on a trip to Eritrea, where some of the Somali Armed Forces are undergoing training. The Presidential Palace reported that Mohamud would discuss the cooperation between Somalia and Eritrea with his counterpart.
