Las Anod (HOL) – The traditional clan chief of the Dhulbahante and leader of the 33-member SSC traditional council, Garad Jama Garad Ali, welcomed on Thursday the peace initiative put forth by a tribal community in Somaliland, aiming to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Sool region peacefully.
“We hope the Garhajis community can convey to Habarjeclo the importance of restraint. Continuing the conflict will have repercussions. Let’s prepare for talks or engage together. We stand ready for peace,” expressed Garad Jama.
The tribe residing east of Somaliland’s Burao town recently held a meeting, expressing their desire to maintain peace with their neighbours while emphasizing their commitment to self-defence in the face of ongoing hostilities.
The recent clashes have resulted in casualties for both Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo forces, leading to the destruction of the villages of Buqdharkayn and Bodhlay. There are concerns that conflict may persist between the two sides without intervention.
