Uganda, Kenya dominate Day 1 in CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA Zone qualifiers

The CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers got off to a flying start on Monday, 11 December with ten matches played at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

Uganda’s team was in good form winning all their two matches and scoring five goals. Adrian Mukwanga netted a hat-trick to hand Uganda a 3-0 win against Somalia in their opening match.

In their second match, Uganda outclassed Burundi 2-0 with Brian Luwagga scoring a brace. Daniel Abel Male, Uganda’s head coach said he was happy with the good start scoring five goals and conceding none.

“We are here to try and win the title and play at the final next year. This is a very good platform that CAF has provided for the youngsters to play competitive school’s football which will help them further develop their talents, “added the coach.

While Uganda tops the boy’s category with 6 points Tanzania are second with the same number of points, but a lower goal difference after stopping Kenya and Somalia. Hosts Kenya are in third place after losing one match and beating Somalia 2-0 in their second match.

In the girls’ category also being played on a round-robin basis Kenya are unbeaten after two matches. They beat Rwanda 2-0 and followed it up with a 1-0 victory against Tanzania.

The top two teams in each of the categories will qualify for the finals to be played on Wednesday.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) is a brainchild of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr Patrice Motsepe.
