Mogadishu (HOL) – The Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) dispatched food aid to the flood-affected people in the Jalalaqsi district and its surrounding areas in the Hiiraan region on Tuesday.

About 30 trucks carrying food aid entered the district, where a dire situation has been reported since the Shabelle River flooded, causing massive devastation in the district and its surroundings.

The agency also sent an aid package to the towns of Amara and Wisil in Galmudug State and the surrounding villages, which were recently liberated from al-Shabaab. SODMA stated that these two towns are among the areas affected by the El-Nino rains.

The death toll from the recent El-Nino-induced floods in Somalia has risen to 120 as water recedes in many areas that were flooded, reducing risks, according to the Somali government.
