Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre and Parliament Speaker attended a prayer meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday to pay tribute to the late Minister of Women and Human Rights and MP Khadija Mohamed Diriye.

Prime Minister Barre expressed that, in recent times, the deceased had been actively working to improve the welfare of Somali mothers and children. This commitment, he noted, would be remembered as one of the positive aspects of her legacy. He commended her unwavering dedication to advancing women’s and children’s rights, emphasizing her lasting impact. Khadija’s lifelong commitment to public service will always be cherished.

Khadijo Mohamed Diriye, the longest-serving woman in Somali politics, passed away in Djibouti last week after a brief illness. She had been in the male-dominated field of politics for nearly three decades.

Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Yusuf al-Adalah revealed that Minister Khadija was admitted to the hospital while participating in the Heritage Forum with government officials in Djibouti. Following surgery, she did not regain consciousness from the coma.

The prayer meeting in Mogadishu was attended by the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor, his deputies, members of the Cabinet, lawmakers and the relatives of the deceased.
