Las Anod (HOL) – At least four people from both sides were killed in a clash between two rival clan militia forces in the Maraga area, situated approximately 18 kilometres east of Las Anod town in the Sool region on Wednesday.
According to residents, the conflict started when the warring groups disputed ownership of an army vehicle equipped with Zuug/Zu-23-ZPU, a prevalent form of heavy cavalry in Somalia. Neither side involved in the clash has provided any comments on the incident.
However, the SSC-Khatumo administration and local elders managed to mediate between the two conflicting forces while efforts were underway to resolve the ongoing violence peacefully.
