Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali Police have arrested six people in connection with the killing of a Somali man employed at the Somali Civil Aviation Authority in Mogadishu on Sunday evening.

The body of Abdinasir Muse Abdirahman, 32, was discovered by Mogadishu police at his residence in El-Qalow village, located in the Wadajir district.

The victim, originally from Gebiley town in northern Somalia, had recently returned from studying abroad. Before his return, he had worked with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) staff in Hargeisa.

The director of the Somaliland Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (SL-CAAA), Omar Sayid Abdulla, stated that they are swiftly assessing individuals from Somaliland who have previously been involved in aviation matters and are currently employed by the federal government of Somalia.

No group has claimed responsibility for the killing of Abdinasir Muse Abdirahman.

Tensions have risen between the federal government and the breakaway region of Somalia over control of the country’s airspace, especially after Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland leader Muse Bihi Abdi.

Last month, Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) denied airspace to an unscheduled Ethiopian Airlines plane, citing a lack of proper permission from Mogadishu authorities. The flight, reportedly carrying senior Ethiopian officials to Somaliland, highlighted the ongoing diplomatic disputes between Somalia and Ethiopia.

Speaking reporters in Addis Ababa on Saturday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud accused Ethiopia of trying to annex part of his country’s territory. The agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland signed on Jan. 1 “is nothing more than annexing part of Somalia to Ethiopia and changing the borders of Somalia,” Mohamud told reporters. “Somalia categorically objects to that.”
