Beledweyne (HOL) – Ali Jeyte Osman, leader of the People’s Defense Forces and self-declared President of Hiiraan State, has reported a resurgence of the Al-Shabaab group in areas liberated from their control a year ago.
In his public address, Jeyte emphasized the necessity of combating Al-Shabaab and called for the support of residents in areas under the group’s control. He stressed the importance of their fight, stating, “Our fight against Al-Shabaab is imperative.”
Jeyte openly acknowledged the stark realities of the conflict; Jeyte said, “Those residing within (Al-Shabaab territories) are subject to our bombardment, and I make no secret of this. This step is essential to combat the destructive activities of Al-Shabaab.” Jeyte’s statement follows a similar warning to people living under Al-Shabaab’s influence in recent weeks.
Additionally, Jeyte credited his forces for reopening the critical Beledweyne-Buulaburte route, highlighting that no Al-Shabaab activities have been reported on this vital pathway since its reopening. He criticized the militant group for its 15-year blockade of the road, questioning its motives for causing such inconvenience to local residents.
The Ma’awisley leader’s statements come amid a noticeable reduction in anti-Al-Shabaab operations nationwide.
