Somali deputy foreign minister meets IOM official to boost diaspora engagement

Mogadishu (HOL) – Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Isaak Mohamud Mursal, met with Ms. Prestage Murima, the Deputy Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in Mogadishu on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the Minister and Deputy Head of Mission discussed strategies to enhance cooperation and coordination to boost diaspora engagement in national development initiatives.

They also deliberated on implementing the national diaspora policy and devising effective strategies to involve the diaspora community in various development initiatives, underscoring Somalia’s proactive approach in leveraging external expertise and resources for sustainable socio-economic progress.

The Somalia National Development Plan (2020-2024) prioritizes economic growth and poverty reduction, emphasizing the role of the Somali diaspora in driving an economic development agenda that aligns with the IOM’s Migration for Development in Africa (MIDA) programme, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and the Global Compact for Migration.
