Kismayo (HOL) – A military court in Jubbaland State has started the hearing of the case involving a traditional elder named Aden Mohamed Geddi,  who is accused of being a member of the al-Shabab group.

Security forces apprehended Aden, aged 44, in 2021 while he was allegedly fighting for the al-Shabaab group, as stated by the Jubbaland military court.

Aden confessed before the court that he belonged to the group and operated in the Yoontoy area.

“I am not denying my affiliation with Al-Shabaab; I have been in the Yoontoy area and its vicinity. I was a herdsman protecting my property alongside those militants,” stated Ugas Adan.

Earlier this month, a military court in Puntland State sentenced six Moroccans believed to be foreign fighters for the Islamic State extremist group in Somalia to death.
