Mogadishu (HOL) – A delegation led by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Thursday afternoon to participate in the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

President Mohamud and his delegation aim to address the severe issues from the floods triggered by El Niño rains in Somalia since mid-October.

The death toll from heavy rains and floods in Somalia has risen to 101, with 1 million people displaced and 1.5 million affected nationwide, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said late Wednesday.

In a nationally televised speech, Mohamud emphasized that Somalia is grappling with a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by climate change-induced El Niño, impacting various parts of the country.

The Somali Villa Somalia reports that the President will engage in sideline meetings with world leaders to seek support for those affected by the floods and address the devastation caused by the ongoing climate crisis.
